Six teams have been inaugurated into the exclusive Tarmac magazine Sub-9 Club at the 2008 Mt Buller Sprint. Designed to reward those who crack under a nine-minute stage time over the 16km hillclimb to the Mt Buller ski village, six of the eight spots were filled by the following crews:
Tony Longhurst/Jahmeil Taylor,Subaru STi, 8:54.30, stage 1
George Miedecke/Daniel Willson, Evo 8 RS, 8:49.46, stage 1
Jason White/John White, Lamborghini Gallardo, 8:56.67, stage 1
Matt Close/Cameron Reeves, Porsche 911 Turbo, 8:59.19, stage 2
Kevin Weeks/Rebecca Crunkhorn, Lamborghini Gallardo, 8.53:14, stage 2
Klark Quinn/Toni Feaver, Evo 9 RS, 8:58.02, stage 3
At this year's 2008 Mt Buller Sprint in early November, this was the trophy the top teams were gunning for, the Tarmac magazine Sub-9 Club.
Along with the outright and class awards, the Sub-9 Club trophy was awarded to crews who recorded a time up the 16km stage in less than 9-minutes. Only a handful of crews have cracked an 'eight' in the event's five-year history, so the Club carries instant credibility.
The Mt Buller Sprint is Australia's premier hillclimb, climbing the 16km access road to the Mt Buller alpine ski village. Car classes include classic, modern and even a new short-course historic motorcycle category. Spectators are encouraged to visit the village where they can up close with the cars and drivers like Jim Richards’ Porsche 911 GT2, STis, Evos, Lamborghinis and a multitude of classic muscle.
